Awesome

I must say, I am extremely impressed.

As a classical composer, I put a lot of emphasis on feel and structure of the song, both of which I think you have done very well at.

The slow strings (cello?) you use at the beginning is quite misleading though, I would not have expected to go where it did, though of course that was in no way a bad thing, I like surprises.

You weren't joking when you said it was circus music, I can so hear this there, I absolutely love your use of the percussions, the triangle, snares, the whole works.

In my opinion however, the most powerful part of this song is when you bring back those strings and have that frill flute dancing, it has such an awesome feel to it.

I can't make music like this, I truly appreciated it.

Anything less then a 5/5 would be wrong, so here you go ^^. Keep them coming.

JamesMillen responds:

Very kind!

I did it as part of a music tech course, so I probably had an advantage by having high quality equipment (though it was only Cubase and Reason)

Though I constructed the chord structure and song structure All of the instruments (barring the strings) are fully sequenced through a device called a "Matrix", which is why the patterns repeat.

My original plan was something like "Classical" then "Dixieland", then "Marching" and finish on "Baroque".

Thanks for your comments

Sweet

I see you have failed in your attempt to stay sane, don't worry, it happens to us all ;).

Interesting use of synths, and delay. It sounds very rough, yes it constantly just washes over you without any disturbance.

That melody you play with the piano, works in its own way, at first I did not appreciate it, but upon careful consideration, I feel it provides a good feel to the song, and so have changed my mind about it.

I would have liked to hear some pads i nthe background you know, just to keep the background a bit busier.

Still, awesome stuff.

I don't know why this got so low.
I give you a 4/5, but will click 5/5 to counter some of the 0 voters.

Pristine Clear, and extremely well done.

I don't know what I can say that so many people already havn't, but i'll try to give my best feedback.

It is true, you are quite skilled in Eq'ing, and compression, things I am still messing around with. I am interesting to know what synths you used, I am also trying to do some trance/techno, however I don't know any good VST's, synths, and frankly don't have the insane CPU that I'll be needing. One step a time though ;).

I loved the feel for this song, I find that this is the most crucial element in it. It made me want to get up and dance, and i'm usually a very serious person who smiles once a lifetime, let alone get up and dance!

Good stuff _Zion_, you have earned my respect, keep them coming man.

A seriously humbling moment.

heh... I walk away for a few months, and here you are tearing up the boards with your songs.

I am quite pleased with your effort, and quite proud.

They are right you know Dan, you have some crazy crazy power, I have a lot of respect for you.

This song moved me, very deeply.

I can't keep complimenting your piano work, i've done it enough times.

If I should die anytime soon Dan, I want you to fly here in Toronto/Canada, and play this song for my funeral, they would weep for me a lake, and I would rest at the bottom of it all, with this melody weaving itself into my degrading corpse.

I have so many stories for this song, with so little time.

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Maestro... oh Maestro... whatever has happened to thee. You come back momentarily and I miss you altogether. Of course you left two great songs in your wake. Thanks for taking the time outta whatever has been keeping your busy and writing me a review.

Now enough with this talk of dieing... you got me worried here buddy. If you died I'd hafta write a new song Called... "Ode to the Maestro"... and it would be my most emotional song yet. ANd then I'd kick ur ass for making me write it ;). Talk to me sometime bud.

Impressive

yahr, them pirates be screwed says I, for they be goin to the dark caves of the great sea cackle woman of the sea... who cackles.

I joke, I jest.

It has an awesomely dark atmosphere, which I absolutely loved. That rattle you used, was a pretty neat effect, doesn't scream "pirate" but does serve its purpose.

I didn't quite like the Accordian you used, it didn't sound very accordiany.

Nice choir though, sounds pretty neat.

The melody was awesome, I'm all about the melody.

When you extended that "aaah" for nearly ten seconds, I felt that was a bit much.

4/5 from me PunkerFish, keep them coming.

Impressive

It sounds familiar this song... but I simply can't seem to say from where. I am not saying you stole it or anything, it simple reminds me of another song here on AP... or on TV, I can't remember that either :P.

Still, very good use of those plucked instruments, they kept the song moving, and was quite powerful.

I would watch the high frequency of those bells, and distortion of the song, if you are using Fruity Studio's, which I think you are, then use the compresser effect to remove all the distortion.

It loops wonderfully. 4/5 from me, keep them coming.

Nigty responds:

Thank you ^^, well, i always try to do my best ^^ but im a beginner so it's tough but fun ; ).. Thans for your review ^^

I am quite impressed

You write well, the music just jumps out at me, and makes me dance in its spirit.

I was quite moved.

I would say the melody was what caught me the most, and I can point fingers at the strings in the background, as simple as they may be, I feel they truly added some power to the feeling, especially when you bring them up an octave, in fact I completely point at them at that point. Those strings were wonderful.

That could just be me, i'm a very very string fanatic ;).

The song loops pretty well, this is my third time through it, and I just realized.

Good stuff, 5/5 from me, keep them coming.

Lova-Gurl responds:

thanks

Impressive

hmm, very very interesting story I see in my head with this song, truly it screams REDEMPTION at me from every angle.

I really like the use of the strings for defiance.

have you considered the timpini? I don't hear any of it, and for sure it would make a great Redemption instrument.

I can't really say that much, it was kinda short, but it was greatly appreciated.

4/5 from me MrIguana, good stuff man.

MrIguana responds:

This was something I made in 30 minutes when I was bored. I chose only strings when I started and due to the format of Finale you can't add instruments in unless you start over... However the timpani would be a good instrument, along with other percussion and maybe the French Horn or Bassoon. Appreciate the review and the 4.

Very impressed

the song had a part of my name in it, how could I NOT review it XP.

Anyways.

The first thing that came to mind was not a very depressed feel at all, if anything I got a charge of energy, building up and up with this song, I wanted to dance, not shed tears or remember my poor pen I lovingly called Bob, and lost to the eternal damnation of witch craftery.

Nice feel. That piano part, where it quietens down, now that part made me shed a single tear for Bob, bless his soul.

I am quite impressed by this piece Ante, keep them coming man.

5/5 from me.

impressive

The first thing that came to mind, was how you inroduced those percussions a little off timed. At the beginning, but that means nothing really.

Very interesting mix of drum and bass, but unfortunatly to me, it sounds far too chaotic. However after the first minute or so, it becomes really really interesting to listen to, and this is where I was most captivated. Very hardcore, bursting with energy from every binaric bit it holds.

4/5 from me dj_padman1, good stuff, keep them coming.

It's been one hell of a ride guys, but it's time for me to leave. I will still be looking at my inbox, if you want me to look at songs, I will check back every once in a while. Take care Newgrounds! full_metal_slashemist@hotmail.com AIM: MaestroSorrow
