Poor friend...

XD, what the hell were you trying to do!? Kill your friend? Not exactly music thats very recuparative.

As usual however, you have some very intense and interesting melodies. You are the master of the dark feeling, so from here hence, I shall call thee Maestro Kinken, lord of the Shadows ^^.

Very appropriatly used Orchestral hits.

The musical transitions though sudden, flow rather well together, and do not disturb the flow.

That scream ending, perfection. Ended the song in the way it should have.

The ONLY thing I can hear in this piece thats not here, is a sick ass organ you know, NAIL that feel of horror to its seat, and peel its skin.

5/5 from me again Kimken, keep them coming.

Kimken responds:

Well, let's say it's my ex.. So maybe! And I'm evil anyway so..

Hahaha, I feel like laughing as the purple guy in "The Little Buzzers"! Well great that you think that way!

I've got a sick ass organ but.. I made this song with cubase, and have lost the songfile a time ago (computer screwed up).

Thanks for the review again Maestrosorrow, I'll do that ;) //Kheni (ken)

Simply orgasmic

holy... what the hell? Thats one CRAZY ass playing skillz you got there! Heh, you can make that thing scream to the heavens man! Jeesus, 5/5 for insanity!

(Gave you a 2 for diversity cuz there was only guitars in the song ^^)

Infamousvillain responds:

thanks man, yea i know it's only guitar, kinda flat, im tryin to get a band goin but doesn't seem like there are too many people out there who love makin music, ill find em, n soon u'll here some full great music. :)

XD

I laughed, really hard, fell off my chair, and woke up my dog...

it was because of you... you bastard you!

60/5 for rapturing my spleen, many thanks Zenon, for making this come to life!

Thanks for the review!

Has a taste of epic.

I can see depression, a lonely kind of air to the song, which would indeed indicate that war was a bad thing. You have succesfully portrayed the image.

well right off the bat, I can say the timpini usage was far better, and you've used it so that it complies with the melody rather nicely.

With the strings, brass and now flute going off, it sound rather epic, because, these are frankly the instruments for epic pieces.

I liked the intro, it built up approrpiatly and then threw me into the song. That really fast use of the timpini, bam, you got how to use them.

I like how you go from string, to brass, then string, to brass. However I am not certain that if using only one note per instrument, and then jumping to the other works very well. It is a good idea, to let the listener hear an instrument at least 3 or more notes, before switching, even then sparingly.

After 0:50, thats what I mean by it becomes epic, the epic feeling breaks off at 1:29 (as the song quiets down ^^).

The repeating harp, should be immediatly accompanied with another instrument.

1:32-2:10
During this time, the song kinda crumbles, it loses its melodic air.

However RIGHT after that, you get all hyper again, and it sounds simply amazing.

2:11-2:42 This time frame has that really neat loop, and then it kinda just stops, if I were you I would have looped that melody again, with the timpini part of it.

I want to dive a little bit more into the single note playing, during 2:11-2:42. You have the single note playing, and by doing this, you provide a invisible, yet solid foundation, you can have the harp going up and down chords while that note just keeps playing. Like what you did with the bass guitar at 1:46, but faster, and more melodic.

I liked the ending, simple, yet effective.

For future reference, war pieces, especially ones of this flavour, will utilize cymbol crashes in transitions, like at 2:34, having a crash RIGHT then at that transition, would make the song more powerful.

4/5 this time Harddrive ^^. In order to get a 5/5 from me again, I would like to hear some snare and more percussional work. Still, it was exceptional, keep them coming.

Harddrive100 responds:

Wow! Lots of suggestions! Thank you! I will definitly improve for a second War.

AGH! No cymbal??? GOD I'M A RETARD! lol.

You mentioned that the slower part was where the song crumbles. I disagree. I never meant for the entire thing to be epic war. It went like this in my head:

There was a war in a mideivil world, and a man chose to join the army to protect his family. The battle is the beginning. Then, while his group passes by his hometown, he goes to see his family, and they're all dead. That's the slower, sadder part. He's enraged by that, and that's the building the the end, where he goes to fight again, to avenge the death of all he loved.

Thank you for helping the development of yet another song!

Taking leaps and bounds.

God I just LOVE hearing these songs evolve!

You've become very powerful with the brass and strings, AND the piano going off at the same time! This is a feat I had to practice for months! It no longer sounds like a trial, but a sort of fight, still that means nothing, it sounds very nice.

And now good sir, I know you are more then capable of setting the mood with these three instruments, I think there is one last crucial step you must take in order to begin weilding some serious composition power.

Snares.

You have some timpini hits here, but they seem random, and unco-ordinated, this is primarily because they don't really seem to follow a pattern, or are not used frequently or loudly enough to make a stand.

Timpini drums are better utilized at a quick pace, for slow heavy drums, use bass kicks, I feel those work better.

I hope you take that into consideration for the third trial ;).

5/5 from me again Harddrive, I promised I would begin reviewing more harshly, but you're just moving along so fast, keep them coming ^^.

Harddrive100 responds:

I thank you for your high rating and great suggestions. As I've said before, Devastation wouldn't have been what it was without you, and I really hope this will become as great as it was. I'm in the process of getting used to percusion, and your suggestions are very helpful.

Very mean indeed.

This really WAS mean as hell... you bully...

It works rather well, loops effectively, so I will give you top marks on that.

I can't really give much of a review on short loops, so i'm afraid i'll have to cut it here this time ^^.

4/5 from me Chrizzly, keep them coming.

Chrizzly responds:

Thanx Maestro!

Quite impressive.

hey for your first song, thats pretty damn amazing! If I sent you my first song, you'd throw something at me, and crush my head into a fine powde...

well nuff with that, onto the review!

(To answer your question, I think you should do classical, you seem to have some good talent in this field)

Right off the bat, I want to say that violin part, was something I REALLY enjoyed, that part in itself has moved me quite deeply, its a simple melody, yet its very effective.

Like DJDarkAngel stated, you overuse the rev crash's a bit too much, but hey, we all learn through making stuff, I learned high amounts while making my songs, I hope you have learned a lot from making this likewise.

There should be a bit of variation with the violin, its a very powerful melody, but if you use it that much, it will lose its flavour.

Also I feel that three note transition of the violin in the very beginning, should be removed, it sounds a bit awkward.

I liked the bass percussional work, it was quite neat. The background sounds were appropriate and worked very well.

4/5 from me this time Loneinstrumentalist, I cannot possibly imagine what you can do in a few months, keep it up, I have great expectations from you ^^.

LoneInstrumentalist responds:

hehe, i see u reviewed my 2nd...n that only took me 6 hrs *hangs self*

yes, in the soon-to-be finished version of this song (give take months) i thus far removed the violin intro, the symbols, n reviewd the sounds....still needs work *raises from the grave* >:D

ah hwell, i learned heck loads making it, and reading reviews such as this n others, thank you all! *bows....too low, cracks back*

cheeri-----os~

Quite impressive.

Ah LoneInstrumentalist, when I first clicked your name, long time ago, you had no music, at last now I can see how your mind works.

I must say, you have a world of talent my friend, the potential is there, you just require some better sounding sounds (get VST's, if you AIM or email me, I will tell you everything you'll need to know about them, if you don't know already.).

Onto the review.

DJDarkAngel has already pointed out some excellent points, here's what I think.

The beginning, deep choirs, set a mood right away, however have you considered replacing, or adding a deep cello with that choir? Why do I suggest this?

Because the orchestra hit in itself, does not comply with the choir, it sounds too different, and therefore clashes with the song, not co-operate with it.

Orchestra hits work exceptionall well with

1) high pitched, powerful strings.
2) other brass instruments (duh)
3) Organs (i'm experimenting with this, but I so tottaly accidently figured out Organs and Orchestra hits work rather good X_x)

these are the three primary ones I found at least, and though the sax does in some form provide Brass, it does not give off the sound required to operate with the orchestra hits.

Another suggestion concerning the Orchestra hits.
Remove them. There is a neat melody that the choir is singing, I REALLY like it. So you could add a lot of power to that melody if you use some wind instruments like the flute, or a violin playing long extended notes with the choir, to provide a stable foundation for the song to stand on.

The sax actually works out pretty good.

I must say I truly appreciated this piece LoneInstrumentalist, one day you will produce very powerful things I am sure.

5/5 from me, keep them coming ^^.

LoneInstrumentalist responds:

Lolapopylicious my friend!

as for ur comments n other's, all well appreciated, ty all :)

hehe, ur the 1st to point out (so far, im reviewing backwards :x) about the timpani n sax X]

as for ur flute comment....i'll need a recorder....as im aimin for grade 6 flute X]

cheerios! tnx for reviewing....n check ur msn X]

Amazing!

wow, am I glad I found this page!

This piece is really moving Inoni, and like you said in Egyptian Panorama, it gave me an image of just sweeping over Egypt. I can so tottally see this in some sort of movie!

I especially enjoyed the percussional work, very realistic sounding.

First time i'm giving a short loop 5/5.

BTW, I feel you should have posted this in Classical, when you post things in Misc they very rarely get listened to.

Inoni-Bird responds:

Oh...good advice. ^_^;; I'm a VERY Classical-oriented person, the hardcore sort who would pop Verdi or Wagner or Mozart into her CD player over, say, rap (*dies*)...but I've never rank film scores in that category...heh, go figure! They seriously need a "soundtrack" category. Well...all righty, then. Glad you enjoy. ;-)

Usable for the following.

Usable for city scenes

Usable for duels between gangsters of sorts.

sets an urban, getto mood effectively.

DJdarkangel responds:

Or before the dual actualy starts, or something like that :)

cyaz
DarkAngel out...

It's been one hell of a ride guys, but it's time for me to leave. I will still be looking at my inbox, if you want me to look at songs, I will check back every once in a while. Take care Newgrounds! full_metal_slashemist@hotmail.com AIM: MaestroSorrow
